V de V Championship: Magny Cours 12 Hour
Keen to repeat the race winning performance of the 2002 12 Hour race, saw RSR
take two Prosports to Magny Cours for the final round of the V de V
championship. Laurence Tomlinson partnered Nigel Greensall in Laurence's
Prosport, while Duncan Williams, Rob Croydon and Tim Christmas shared the RSR
Prosport.
Friday practise was very wet, Saturday qualifying and the first part of the
race on Saturday afternoon and evening was much the same. Starting the
race from qualifying positions of 10th and 13th, Nigel and Laurence finished the
first six hours in second place, whilst Duncan, Rob and Tim were 15th. The
cars had both run the first six hours on one set of wets, but Sunday morning
bought some better
weather for the start of the second part of the race.
Only 20 laps into the second six hours the engine in the
Williams/Croydon /Christmas car blew up, but just an hour and half later was back
on the track with a new engine and finished the race in 19th position (57 laps
down on the leader). Laurence and Nigel were looking good for a race win,
leading the race by 2 laps, when on lap 61 - nearly 2 1/2 hours into the race
the car retired with a blown head gasket. Final classification 26th place,
106 laps down.
